the recipe wasn't john k's tho, it was ralph bakshi's. the late 80s mighty mouse cartoon let the new generation of weird, inappropriate animators do their weird ass thing. the connection between this and ren and stimpy is john k, in the same way dave feiss brought ren and stimpy to cow and chicken

i agree and disagree. ren and stimpy was def influential, on nickelodeon, cartoon network, and mtv. but i think the reasons for its influence extend beyond the show rather than lie within it. cartoons carrying on ren and stimpy's legacy often have crews that worked on ren and stimpy

and the recipe for ren and stimpy's success was to find talented animators and let them cook. the similarity in spongebob is bc the guy that did that went on to do spongebob. what a cartoon guy did 80s hanna-barbera (woof) and then ren and stimpy and then cartoon network
