At one point or another, we're all going to need to see a doctor. But our health care system remains unaffordable, inaccessible, and deeply dysfunctional. It is unacceptable. That’s why a strong majority of Americans agree: We need Medicare for All.

The most precious commodity you have is your attention. You don’t have to waste it on poor-faith debates or arguments with strangers if you don’t think they’ll be productive. You can prioritize the things that matter to you and make your life richer.

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game. The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

When I was placed on the Professor Watchlist in 2021, people sent death threats about my children. I had security officers monitor my 8yo at school. Where is all the outrage for those of us who have been targeted for years? Where is the outrage for our families? My own colleagues are silent.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

I think the disconnect we’re seeing online is between pundits who are imagining a Charlie Kirk in their heads and professors who have lived for a decade with the (often literal) targets he and his anti-free speech organization placed on their backs.

The impulse was already there and had been for a while, white nationalism isn’t new. GG caused the creation/expansion of online infrastructure for networking, community building (mainly among young online people) and spreading/testing of tactics and propaganda. But it didn’t invent the fasc wheel.

The playbook of demagogues like Trump is to protect the Oligarchs by dividing us up based on race, religion, place of birth or sexual orientation. They want us to hate each other while they laugh all the way to the bank. Don’t fall for it.

Our health care system is close to collapse. Not enough doctors, nurses or dentists. Costs are skyrocketing. Trump’s legislation will cause hospitals, nursing homes & community health centers to cut back services. We need a simple, universal system: Medicare for All.

Instead of forcibly “removing the homeless” from DC as Trump wants to do, we need to build millions of affordable housing units in America. Instead of giving tax breaks to Wall Street billionaires who are buying up housing & jacking up rent, we need to put a cap on rent prices.
