66% of people agree "Immigrants contribute to our culture and we're all the better for having them here", up from 64% in 2024. - 77% believe people seeking international protection should be supported to become part of the communities they live in.

There is absolutely no evidence that any significant number of people voted for Repeal because of the waiting period. The best evidence we have (the exit poll) suggests that more people are likely to have voted Yes in spite of it

While there is a loud and growing problem with the far-right it is very important to remember that the majority of the country does not agree with them. Interesting stuff in here, full report:

Kelly Earley: Don’t fall for the idea that Dublin is dangerous
Falling crime rates and global rankings tell one story of Dublin, but social media and public discourse often tell another.

the anti-trans to anti-neurodiversity pipeline continues to flow. it is obviously absurd anywhere, but it's so detached from reality in Ireland, where we have a massive backlog of children seeking autism diagnoses and no public provision of adult diagnosis at all

Racists brining the country to a standstill this week (under guise of fuel crisis) tried to intimidate one of the great charities in the country last night. MSOÉ have been feeding the unhoused for 11 years on O Connell street. Ugly scenes but beautiful show of solidarity from the people they feed.

also probably worth noting a truck / tractor convoy converging on Dublin has been a dream of the Irish far right for ages and they're eagerly glomming onto this one. they saw the spectacle of the Canadian trucker convoy and the farmer protests on the continent and they've wanted their own ever since

As soon as Progress Ireland was set up, it was only a matter of time before they had ministerial access for their awful ideas. Somehow being a US based tech billionaire enables you to meet with the Minister for Housing. Can you imagine how bereft of ideas the Gov are for this to go so far?

The Irish academy has traditionally been characterised by a revisionist and anti-nationalist approach which the layperson might describe as “West Brit”. But even the academy cannot deny the horrors of Cromwell (which were far worse than you are even imagining).

One of the craziest aspects of this was Ireland was living in two sets of realities because at the same time, someone like Patrick O'Donovan was adamanant about banning social media for U16s because of safety concerns and someone like Patrick O'Dovovan wasn't too keen on pursing the Grok issue.

Last night's ICE storyline on The Pitt depicts deportation as a disgusting, degenerate act carried out by human monsters, from whom normal people, whom they hate, instinctively recoil. Horrifying, vital work. (gift link)
