These people are actually evil. I never used to believe in the concept, I thought it was about structures and self-interest, but now it looks a heck of a lot more like actual, biblical evil

Te Ara Paerangi Com - Research Advocacy Capability

Reading through the 4 enumerated items in particular, it is super clear that robust public research capability is needed to address them all. At the same time, this government is further destroying that very capability and the pathways for training up the next generations.

Wild that we are talking about mining seabeds and conservation estate, while piling landfills with concentrated rare earth minerals from consumer electronics. This is not a sustainable system.

Two things are simultaneously true: 1. The Iranian regime treats its people with extreme brutality and cruelty, and we should honour the citizens seeking to overthrow it. 2. A US attack on Iran would turn a crisis into a catastrophe.

When government ministers dismiss deadly storm events as "just weather", as Mark Mitchell did on RNZ just now, they reveal themselves to be unfit for government. It's thinly veiled climate denial.

The NZ government canning the $6bn disaster resilience fund, Three Waters and social development is a return to "Nobody is coming to help you". The international move away from governance as something that materially benefits communities. Austerity measures. A wider return to "sucks to be you".

???? The issue is not that people are not incentivised to work. It is a) there are no jobs, and b) people have care responsibilities. This is ridiculous, sorry 😞 I thought TOP were supposed to be progressive

This is such bs from the government. While the rest of the world gets on with solar, wind and other forms of renewable distributed generation, we go further and further backwards. I hate it. We're the dumping ground for the world's sunset industries.

Just so we're all totally clear here. Everyone has to pay more because this government scrapped projects for electrification, ignored advice from the sector on transitioning off gas, and wants to build a terminal that is unlikely to be usable for $1 billion plus - money they said we didn't have.

If you are talking about increasing the cost of electricity, and not investing in distributed, resilient solar and battery capacity, nor electrification of transport in multi modes, you don’t understand the problem and should not be anywhere near power (pun absofuckinglutely intended)

It gets worse. While (a few) households save up the megabucks, Government does the same! The NZ Govt is not in debt according to any sensible measure. So, Govt and wealthy households stack up savings while our infra falls apart, kids go hungry, teeth go rotten, etc. Make it make sense. [2/n]

What if polluters could demand a payout just for being told to stop polluting? That’s what the Government is planning in its rewrite of the RMA. New Zealanders should never have to pay companies to stop polluting drinking water, cutting down forests killing wildlife.

The present US regime won't keep any "deal" it signs, but instead regards making such a deal as a sign that you are a mark who can be intimidated. Dealing with them is simply stupid and pointless.
