Many older adults who died of COVID weren’t close to death before infection, study suggests "About 28% of older people in England who died of COVID-19 in the first 2.5 years of the pandemic would likely, if uninfected, have lived at least another 5 years" Source:

Before we even get into these slides, we’ll be very honest here. We get it, there are a lot of reasons to doubt certain agencies and institutions when they say the risk of a virus to the general public isn’t that high, but it’s currently true that the public is at very low risk from hantavirus.

Trolls: "No one knew what to do about a novel coronavirus in 2020." Reality: There was a provincial commission in Ontario following the botched response to SARS-CoV-1 in 2003. It had specific recommendations for dealing with such a virus. Those were ignored in 2020.

Experts say if the lessons learned from the 2003 SARS outbreak had been better applied early on, Canada could have fared much better in the coronavirus pandemic.

New version of our infographic on airborne diseases. We've added the Andes virus (hantavirus), which appears to be airborne. R0 is the degree of contagiousness: the higher the R0, the more contagious the disease. The R0 of Andes virus is not yet known, but it is certainly low.

I blame the global leadership of public health and infection control for an unnecessary pandemic, caused by their greed for power and the fact that they were - and in many cases still are - nearly a century out of date. I blame them for the millions of deaths their ignorant arrogance cost.

I'm seeing multiple MDs, including those high up at the WHO, repeatedly say the public need not worry about hantavirus, you need close prolonged contact to get the illness, it's not airborne, and most worryingly, the WHO advising HCWs to use inadequate respiratory protection. Here's the problem. 1/

Public health messaging we need to hear: "We acknowledge that we were wrong about COVID not being airborne. We've learned from that. We no longer assume the same with new outbreaks and we employ the precautionary principle until we have clear evidence that airborne mitigations are not required."

Why does WHO advise "medical masks" for those on board with respiratory symptoms? Why don't they advise FFP2/N95 respirators? Even for healthcare people? Their latest on the outbreak refers to 3 types of precautions: standard, transmission-based & airborne:

"Should I start masking again because of
#hantavirus
?" It's been a wise preventive behavior to mask the past 6 years. The U.S. has twice annual COVlD waves. We've dipped into a "lull" after the 12th wave this winter, but we're still at 180,000 estimated new daily infections.

Fascinated by these articles saying Andes hantavirus is only transmitted through prolonged close contact, when Dr Gustavo Palacios says that the 2018 Andes outbreak taught them that you are *highly* contagious but only for a VERY short window, like a day.

Publ*c health’s main job has become to tell people “don’t panic” and “trust us” without doing much to make those things possible and it’s really sad. But they won’t do better because too many people put saving face (and “the economy”) over saving lives.

I want to point out how deeply this impacts Indigenous Peoples, as we are disproportionately represented within prisons. Book programs brought Indigenous voices to our incarcerated relatives. They are cutting us off from one another and it is on purpose.
