The more you dig into Trek production, the more you understand it was arguably good in spite of him rather than because of him.

The thing I love most about Star Trek is that it’s always called Gene Roddenberry’s peaceful vision and then you have people who worked directly with Gene who tell stories about how they had to physically restrain him so that he wouldn’t go demanding to see the dildo planet that was in his script.

But seriously: that's actually a really great point on how well-structured Die Hard is as an action film. *Every* sequence not only leads to the next but scales up the tension, giving us the right amount of info as to what McClane needs to do to progress forward. In videogames, that's good pacing.

If there is one thing it does better than videogames, with rare exceptions, is how it treats the antagonist and their minions. Each one of Hans Gruber's henchmen is distinctly recognizable, in some way, and *never* functions as faceless cannon-fodder. If anything, they're more like *mini-bosses*...
