The movie was Hanna-Barbera's "up yours" to their harshest critics at the time. The studio wanted to prove that they can make high quality theatrical movies within a budget. The end result was this movie.

Hanna-Barbera had pulled it off thanks to an influx of laid off Disney/WB animators that were recently hired. Combine that with industry veterans, the studio had the manpower to make theatrical movies.

The movie still used limited animation, but they were smart with where to use it. It was done in a way to make it look like a more higher budget television cartoon (in a good way that is).

This is why I love Hanna-Barbera. They found a way to put their critics on hush mode by making a high quality theatrical movie out of nowhere.

Okay, that was fucking awesome. Danny Glover vs Predator may not have the same "Arnold as a Final Girl" resonance as the first movie but it goes fucking hard regardless. Also deeply deeply love all the Hunting in The Urban Jungle sequences, so brilliant, especially the subway!
