This perspective on the discord change is very important. Having administered a space where adults and "teens" intersected regularly (Minecraft modding) that space would not be what it is today without them. Those kids being removed would basically be the end of that space.

This is a good thread, worth reading and reflecting on. We have seen how banning one site makes users shift elsewhere with less oversight, less safety, more predators, less parental control. Kids will use the Internet, if you ban the safer places then they will shift to the shadows.

I hate hate hate so much that the world has shrunk so much for kids since I was a kid. We took outside away from them and now we're taking inside too. Exploring and curiosity in different spaces is so important to learning about yourself, and we're shutting them off to every opportunity.

When I wrote Section 230 I did so knowing it would be critical for protecting free speech online. 30 years later and it’s one of the last things standing in the way of Republican censorship of the internet. Here’s to many more years of defending this vital safeguard of free speech.

This one is hard for me. It’s one of the only places I have good communities on hard topics. Also, I’m having my students “work on” Discord as their class project this year, and this change hits at the middle of every single group project, from monetization to engagement.

I just attended oral arguments in Netchoice v. Yost / Skrmetti. The most shocking point for me (and I think the entire courtroom) was when the State of Tennessee argued: (1) Netchoice v. Moody wasn't about speech. And (2) Disseminating 3rd party speech isn't speech.

It has been two days since Professor Ilan Wurman acknowledged that there is an inaccurate statement in the brief that submitted to the Supreme Court in the birthright citizenship case. To my knowledge, he has no plans to amend the brief. This is a problem to which I will continue to draw attention.

Ilan called my criticisms “ridiculous” in the last 24 hours and scolded my tone. Yet, hardly a peep about nearly any of my criticisms of his brief or the substantive questions I asked. I’ll respond once more, calmly and with evidence, but I don’t take well to being talked to like a petulant child.
