Excited to see the last of my postdoctoral work at Rockefeller online now! Here we investigate global state-dependent changes in splicing patterns in the context of T cell activation when we inhibit SF3B1 using a covalent small molecule.

I always thought it would be cool to reconstruct the evolutionary history of natural products like with proteins. While it's likely not possible, I put together a chart of inferred best guesses at when classes of natural products evolved within a greater biological context.

Vinegar does no good, nor do other acids. Baking soda does no good, nor do other bases. The three tear gases are not neutralized by any of them. Milk does no good either. You need soap/detergent and water for skin and clothing, and always only plain water for the eyes. Lots of it. That’s it.

Lots of talk today about the demise of BlueSky. For whatever it's worth, it's been a boon to indie publishers like us. Twitter and Facebook have pretty much silenced us, so the engagement here has, and continues to be, wonderful.

Many plants produce toxins to deter herbivores. Over time, herbivores evolved ways to detoxify them. Carnivores didn’t need to—meat lacks such toxins. Humans are omnivores descended from herbivores; dogs are omnivores descended from carnivores. That’s why some foods safe for us are toxic to dogs.

Here are the structures of the food dyes that have just been banned (FD&C = food, drug, cosmetics) A few years ago I set out to do a structural analysis on all approved food dyes, but I never ended up publishing it. I'll post the rest of the structures in the comments.
