A 30 day ceasefire seems unlikely to "open" the strait in practice. Are tankers really going to set sail for the Strait in a scenario that it could be closed again by the time they get there? Keep in mind I assume Trump will be threatening to restart the war every day

Do we really think the Washington Times has the inside scoop?? Well DW is also suggesting something is coming, but the finalization of a draft peace deal is not a peace deal. Im not sure Trump or IRGC is going to go forward , and this is hardly a ringing endorsement.

So the Xi/Trump summit didn't accomplish anything other than the few token agreements that were little more than a minor step back towards the previous trade status quo and aren't even deals per se as they are nonbinding claims to "look into it"

I for one thought a lot of it had to do with the MSM repeatedly putting out stories that just said "voters hate inflation" over and over again, adding almost nothing of substance but cementing in the vibecession. It is curious why it continued absent the deluge of those stories.

Donald Trump has made it impossible to observe that societal norm in which even those we detest are granted an if-you-can't-say-anything-nice silence when they expire. When his stain is wiped off this vale, I'll use all the maledicta I know and dance in the street with the best Americans I can find.

This is an issue. It is not *the* issue. *The* issue is that everything about this is illegal and corrupt as fuck. Relenting to a $2 billion theft for Trump and his cronies because at least the money won’t go to people who assaulted cops would be the most Susan Collins move ever.

Something people don't really remember but is true is that one of the *top* political issues the media covered in the runup to the 2014 midterms was the idea that Barack Obama had badly mismanaged an Ebola outbreak because 10 total Americans had gotten it

If we do get a deal on Iran I expect Trump to sharply pivot to another war. They have been crowing about Cuba for months, and would have certainly acted on it already if Iran hadnt near instantly become a quagmire.

This is technically true, but Bezos is the worst person to say it. You really cannot raise the tax base if you are only focusing on billionaires or even just millionaires. You'd fundamentally have to increase taxes broadly across the board to some degree.

Hmmmm, I don't really think this is going to help the situation TBH. I think it gets jammed up in the House, or baring that, it gets vetoed by Trump, no? Regardless too much damage is baked in.

Inability to deliver material goods that the population expects exposes a lack of capacity/competence in government that can lead to it being toppled. People often realize that a dictatorial regime that's too incompetent to get bread to the capital is also too incompetent to defend itself

One of the things that struck me in that whole debacle was win the EIC was sneering at the public and saying something to the effect of having had many interview subjects later complain about being tricked into interviews under false pretenses after the interviews were published...

The trick is to be bold when interacting with them in the replies, it will lead to a bunch of their fellow travelers blocking you without effort on your part, however you must block them if they ever quote post you, don’t want their clique to sense blood in the water.

The thing about Astead is he swore up and down that Biden publicly promised to be a one term President, based on a thinly sourced Politico article that only claimed Biden “signaled it” privately, an article that Biden explicitly denied on the record at the time.
