I propose Cal and Judge settle this debate by swapping positions for the final series of the season. Let’s get the gear on ya, Aaron!

By fWAR Aaron Judge is 50.7% better than the 2nd-best right-fielder (9.8 to 6.5) Cal Raleigh is 219.5% better than the 2nd-best catcher (9.0 to 4.1)

in August at his number retirement ceremony, Ichiro urged the 2025 Mariners to "seize the moment" new for Yahoo Sports, on Seattle's successful embrace of the mantra, and Cal Raleigh delivering another storybook swing (or two) to clinch the AL West at long last:

The Seattle Mariners, in winning their first AL West title in 24 years, are seizing their moment
Powered by slugging catcher Cal Raleigh and inspired by Ichiro Suzuki, the Mariners unquestionably look the part of a World Series contender.

Announcement: I have unilaterally exercised my authority and am hereby claiming all the good and cool parts of College Football Blue Sky (the best sports community on this site) as Mariner fans for the remainder of the season. Welcome to the fold, friends.

BONUS LIGHT BAT: There is no precedent in baseball history for a player having Cal Raleigh's season and not winning the MVP. After last night, the award is his.

You can cast almost all blame directly on John Roberts and the Supreme Court if Cal Raleigh wins MVP. Their brazen politicization and willingness to defend Trump’s illegal acts at every turn means the American public’s respect for Judges has never been lower.

"most valuable" argument: the Yankees have shown plenty of times this century that they can win the division without Aaron Judge, but the Mariners could only do it with literally Ichiro Suzuki around that one time. Ergo Cal Raleigh is like if Sisyphus actually got the boulder all the way up the hill

I haven’t heard this many people arguing about Raleigh vs. Judge since Sir Walter was accused of trying to remove King James I from the throne and was ultimately sent by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury to the Tower of London in 1603.

Playoff-bound Light Bat: Over the years the Mariners (and God) have turned me into an existential mess haunted by history. Yesterday - with a big old hat tip to the Colorado Rockies - was a good kick in the ass to remember the present.

Baseball is a beautiful game. Yesterday was a Top 10 regular season moment in Mariners history and for 2/3 of the night the team was being completely dominated by a pitcher with a name from Super Mega Baseball.

The Mariners are in a great position no matter what happens today, but the difference between a win and loss in this one is still pretty massive. It's almost impossible to lose the division with a win today.
