Every day I see complaints about what's frame as a unique crime of "The Pitt fandom" that's been widely documented as a dynamic/behavior across all sorts of audiences, communities, platforms, etc for *years*. Did these people somehow miss all of that? Or is the problem that it's around The Pitt.

Angsty pretentious teenage me writing a dream journal near christmas 1987 shows up as 95-100% AI generated, by detectors offering to sell me services to re-generate my text with AI more humanised so it passes as not AI. It hurts to think about — even more than reading 16 year old me.

In 2026, if your article assessing "fandom" is mostly sourced from Twitter, you'd better frame the article as being *about* Twitter fandom specifically. That is a verrry narrow and intentional subset of fans today. That's not to say it's not worth covering—but that framing needs to be prominent.

I just think "journalists" should do better!!! than looking at Twitter!! and saying!! Wow Fandom?? Sure Is Something Fandom??? step barefoot on legos!!!

With every new ~Pitt toxic fandom article~ that one of us shares to the Fansplaining Slack I fear by the time we launch, our first article will just consist of incoherent screaming. 🥲

It baffles me that academics are doing this unpaid labor for them!! I've been chatting with @effietheant.bsky.social about how to create a pipeline for acafans to publish on the new @fansplaining.bsky.social—we can't pay massive rates, mind you, but of course we'll pay. What kind of org wouldn't? 🫠
