All love and light to Minnesota today (and every day). I am so sorry y'all have been put in this position by the fascist fucks who run our government. Your work shows the rest of us what solidarity can look like.

The fearmongering about the TikTok sale is exhausting; citing things they’ve been doing this whole time. My good dudes, EVERY social media you’re on is data mining you PLUS your phone if your it’s not locked down. If someone is trying to make you angry/afraid about changes to a TOS, they’re suspect.

You want to know how stupid social anxiety is? I'm afraid to FOLLOW people on social media. Yes, you read that right. Afraid. To Follow. People. Out of all the brains to be assigned, it had to have THIS specific defect? Ugh.

Seconding this. Geocities was so popular that they couldn't keep up with demand at first. LiveJournal had to close off applications for a year because folks overwhelmed them Something Awful had to start charging for forum access to deal with the load. And so on.

I loved this piece but I keep seeing quote-posts that are like "CRITICISM IS DEAD" and "LISTS KILLED READING THE BOOK" and that hyperbolic overreaction is also! not! helping! there are great critics and great criticism out there still! acting like it doesn't exist is just gonna hasten its death!

This is a big reason why I've been trying to use physical media at my library whenever it's on offer, even if there are digital options. Anyway, if your local library has a friends of the library chapter, set up a recurring donation and help your library out.

I don't know where this "the midterms will be cancelled" rumor is coming from, but it's all over my TikTok FYP, too. In my deeply voter suppressed state, elections are handled at a county level. What, are the Republicans going to call off their OWN elections, literally happening right now? lol no

has a great thread here. Her thesis doesn't explain why MM romance is vastly more popular than the FF equivalent, and I think it's worth thinking about given the absolute *phenomenon* of Heated Rivalry (which is really good, and deserves its success).
