Seconding this. Geocities was so popular that they couldn't keep up with demand at first. LiveJournal had to close off applications for a year because folks overwhelmed them Something Awful had to start charging for forum access to deal with the load. And so on.

I loved this piece but I keep seeing quote-posts that are like "CRITICISM IS DEAD" and "LISTS KILLED READING THE BOOK" and that hyperbolic overreaction is also! not! helping! there are great critics and great criticism out there still! acting like it doesn't exist is just gonna hasten its death!
