This is why Renay’s newsletter is deserving of a Hugo nomination: I just read it and learned that Luminous won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Science Fiction/Fantasy. (I also learned that I need to check why my Locus RSS feed isn’t working).

As an Arkansan, the number of people who have told me that Arkansas is a lost cause all the way to “if y’all just went ahead and seceded we could bomb you and would be at peace” is way too high. It’s why I don’t do politics on social media anymore. It sucks to be visibly Southerner on EVERY app.

My best craft advice is "Put a giant worm in it." You can never go wrong with a giant worm. Sci-fi: Giant worm on an alien planet Fantasy: Giant worm in mountain sitting on a pile of gold Horror: Giant worm (eats people) Romance: Giant worm causes third-act breakup Mystery: Giant worm investigates

This is a tough one because a lot of the space books I like don't actually have that much space travel in them! But how about: Merchanter's Luck, C.J. Cherryh The Wounded Sky, Diane Duane A Matter of Oaths, Helen S. Wright The Kindly Ones, Melissa Scott The Wrong Stars, Tim Pratt

The obvious authors: Ann Leckie, Martha Wells, maybe even James SA Corey (though I never finished the Expanse), and Becky Chambers. Additionally Stina Leicht, Everina Maxwell, and LM Sagas are authors I've really enjoyed recently. I didnt vibe with Mur Lafferty but I think many people would.

If you can substitute "hungry ghost trapped in a jar" for "AI" in a sentence it's probably a valid use case for LLMs. Take "I have a bunch of hungry ghosts in jars, they mainly write SQL queries for me". Sure. Reasonable use case. "My girlfriend is a hungry ghost I trapped in a jar"? No. Deranged.
