Nethack 5.0 dropped last month. I think I'll take a sabbatical.

When I was in school I printed out hundreds of pages of BBS manual on my family's dot-matrix printer, carefully tore all those tractor feed edges off, and put it all in a 3-inch binder to take to school and study in my free time. Mostly so I could run Tradewars 2002 for my friends.

It help to justify upgrading to the USR Courier 14.4 and seeing as I was volunteering at night meant I could use that beast in the day time and many of the BBS I connected with let me play tradewars.

I took a vacation and now have some ideas for both a potential SP and MP approach to an updated TradeWars 2002-like game. I kinda like my SP version better. It would try to capture the BBS magic in a Stories Untold sort of way. 🤔

Back in the 80's I would sometimes start my Saturday morning by watching cartoons, then jumping on my 1040ST and learning/writing GFA BASIC code, then transition to playing a few games in the afternoon, and around dinnertime visit a handful of BBSes. What a great time.

Wired up an AI agent to my MeshCore LoRa mesh this week — 34 tools, one serial cable, fully local. Today I just talked to it like a person: "send a message to the mesh." And it did. This is genuinely useful.

Updating on the BBS front, I got ADF to behave itself by using QEMU's serial-to-telnet emulation, and now I just need to write an expect script to simulate a modem pickup and to drop the connection when the BBS hangs up So it's basically ssh->(expect as shell)->telnet haproxy->BBS containers

You don't need an email client, become a power user and just telnet to port 25 on your mail server.

MicroPython's 8x8 pixel frame buffer font is too small for the 240x240 pixel display on BEAPER Nano and BEAPER Pico, so I'm working on designing a custom 16 pixel high font that I can build into the MicroPython LCD display driver (top of both photos – bottom is Reddit Sans 16). What do you think?

Playing with SECAM on a raspberry pi and I was surprised my test TV displays it. I know it supports NTSC/PAL, but I thought SECAM didn't work. Lots of red/blue fringing on details, but colours are present and accurate.

How it’s going, PC/104 edition. The 16 bit portion of the connector is not connected to the ISA bus to provide I/O for DVI and the VFD.
