This is one of the smartest things anyone's ever said about a Stephen King story, and might be a truly key insight into what makes his stuff work (or not!).

The Butlerian Jihad will begin with Steve Earle destroying the Nashville bossesâ âHayIâ app in a mashup of Devil Went Down to Georgia and the legend of John Henry (with a little of that classic Star Trek Kirk-talking-the-evil-supercomputer-into-killing-itself bit).

Blazed through Jane Smileyâs A Thousand Acres over the last week. Fantastic. Dark and earthy and terrifying. Reminded me of The Secret History. Top shelf.

I love the Dropkick Murphys because "Irish-American" + "gen X" + "punk rocker who's been at it for 30 years" should be the formula for the most racist guy alive but instead Ken Casey is constantly giving interviews where he's like "fascists are demons from hell and that's where they belong"

Pope Leo's speech about movies has got me thinking again about something I think about a lot, and that's the sharp decline in the number of active movie theaters in rural Oklahoma over the course of my life.

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

Iâll keep pushing this line of analysis because Iâm increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasnât realized it yet, but theyâre now a reform party.

Quick notes on Electric NE: 1. You only think youâve heard Bruce howl like a lonesome coyote in the desert (Johnny 99) 2. Youâve never in your life heard a song like this Downbound Train 3. Something vaguely Michael Mann-y about this NE itself 4. This Atlantic C. is incredibly, fascinatingly bad

What do I know and I'm not saying it's a magic bullet or anything like that but it sure seems to me that Dems should run hard on the Argentina bailout. Not anywhere near the worst thing Trump has done, but i suspect it's unusually clarifying.
