The story is insane. The acting head of cyber security, a Noem crony, repeatedly demanded to see highly classified information he didn’t need access to, and when staff set up a lie detector test as a condition to grant him access, he failed it. So DHS suspended the staffers.

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

Everyone in the federal government and the media only has one job and it's frantically running around and trying to hide evidence of the president's many crimes. They are so tired and all they want is for him to at least pause the crimes for a minute but he keeps on doing new ones

This is something i have wanted to write about for a while. The PR around the term AI defining it as LLMs has obscured all of the technologies like Machine Learning that were called AI not that long ago and actually have changed numerous production processes.

Here's another way the intentional PR conflation of the term AI with all ML is undermining academic work: I'm collab'ing on an archive management project that involves developing an ML tool to analyze texts. The answer to asks for funding/resources has often been, "Just use chatgpt/copilot/etc.!"

My problem with these kinds of takes is that the office of the presidency has a systematic and longstanding history of brazen lying. There is no reason this shouldn't have long been the standard by the criteria set forth. Which means the real criteria is "basic functioning of the U.S. order"

Really fascinating read...had no idea about the tax/inheritance advantages of the "farm" designation...

This is very interesting both for modern politics but also for history. While tracing families through the 19th and 20th centuries, I always marvel at the work women did on these farms. It has never gotten the attention it deserves.

There is truth in this thread but the obvious issue which makes the original statement still true is that the **Supreme Court** itself is a key national problem and Democratic party leadership has been quite clear about its unwillingness to rein in the court.

What's interesting about this silly statement is that the obvious implication is "leveling the playing field" for speech in a way that takes into consideration "natural persons" would involve limiting the size and scope of media companies rather than opening up the corporate money taps.
