I think this framing around *stability* is really important - differing access to stability (beyond material deprivation or even access to opportunities) remains a significant factor in shaping people's possibilities ... quite a bit up from what we would call poor.

People using the word "Chinese overcapacity" as if it's some kind of technical, objectively definable term should be challenged to define it *without* the word Chinese in front. "Overcapacity" usually refers to a condition that does NOT benefit the producer. It doesn't mean "doing well"

I'm going to stop talking about this soon, I promise, but I'm really befuddled about how Henry George became *such* a household name and Edward Kellogg (more influential on the substance of actually existing Populism - while the latter was a political force) is so much forgotten.

I think some Democrats are indeed deeply worried about the repercussions, but those repercussions are not about losing the electorate; they are about having to change in ways that some find unthinkable, I guess.

What was the Populist subtreasury plan at its core? ...It was a proposal that the entire group (thru the national govt) lend (ie, extend present purchasing power) directly (ie, not thru the intermediary of select others: banks) to some of its members, in exchange & in reliance on *future* production

Edward kellogg not only anticipated legal realists but also keynes: "useful productions would probably increase from twenty five to fifty percent" from implementation of his plan for a public currency (loaned directly from the government to individual citizens)
