I'm not someone who thinks anyone is obligated to post anything to social media, that silence= violence, etc. But speaking out against police brutality in the US while remaining silent on the military crimes of the US and its allies abroad reflects a very troubling and sadly common double standard.

Agree with first paragraph. And have also felt the same for quite some time re: other issues (less life/death than either of these) that many who are silent now not only spoke out about themselves, but faulted others for not speaking about. It has just been really tough and disappointing.

It is not an exaggeration to say that reading Gary Webb’s Dark Alliance in high school utterly changed my life. This book stoked my interest in how the war on drugs served deeply political aims, something that has formed an undercurrent of my research.
