Belgium's Golden Generation catches a lot of heat for coming up short and there have definitely been disappointments, but they are responsible for three of the country's four World Cup quarterfinal appearances and their third place finish in 2018 is Belgium's best ever. They were pretty great!

Issue 466 of

is out now in newsagents of reasonable repute. Includes me summarising the entire 2026-27 League One season in 750 words while resisting the natural urge to laugh at Rotherham. Plus a

The World Cup isn't the only competition full of European teams being played at the moment, the Conference League, Europa League and Champions League have all started this week.

I was checking which team last beat Morocco and the answer depends on what you mean by “Morocco,” “beat,” and “official.” Senegal if you mean on the pitch. Kenya if you count CHAN. South Africa if you mean the clean senior-team record. African football in one question.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a team as dominant as France at a World Cup. I can only assume they'll be knocked out in very disappointing fashion.

ITV coverage has been objectively better on most levels but they have no Bob the Cat discourse so BBC wins really.

In the Europa Conference League Caernarfon are 3-0 down to Estonian side Levadia at half-time. They have a Brazilian called Joao Pedro who has scored one and set up another. Hardly seems fair.

People screaming fix and conspiracy over every football decision is a bit annoying and OTT and also a reflection of the times BUT Infantino has brought it all on himself with his open favouritism, the Trump call and clear corruption elsewhere

TNS lost away in Azerbaijan yesterday. Having your four/five biggest clubs play in a different league system makes things tough.

EVERY WORLD CUP KIT EVER WORN: Bolivia (home), 1930. This kit was worn in the match against Yugoslavia on 17 July 1930. Each Bolivia player wore a letter that spelled out 'Viva Uruguay' in tribute to the hosts of the 1930 World Cup.

They’ve structurally built the rules this way too. Can overturn a corner and make it a goal kick but not the other way around. It’s a really bad rules route to go down.

Egyptian goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir is the son of the goalkeeper who played in 1990 - in the notorious "ashamed" Irish 0-0 draw. Ahmed Shobeir was booked for repeatedly time-wasting in that game, in a match seen as influential to the introduction of the back-pass rule.

I’ve always bristled at the idea that this is the most talented USMNT. In a vacuum, that’s true, but the whole world has gotten a lot better too and I don’t think we’re more talented relative to the competition than we’ve been before. I also don’t really agree this team didn’t have heart.

ScottishFootball.info
🇧🇪 Belgium beat the USA 4-1 to reach the quarter-finals, making the last eight for the third time in four World Cups. 🔝 It’s one of the best quarter-final runs in World Cup history: only 4 nations have ever gone one better and made the last 8 four tournaments in a row.

See? If they hadn't been so intent on getting the suspension suspended the USA could have gone for years with a sense of grievance about what could have been if only Balogun had been allowed to play. Injustice is a basic fuel of football, allowing the imagination to soar, creating dreams of what if.

some great games, but this WC will leave such a horrible taste. so many horrendous precedents set; the ticket price multiplier, the effective creation of quarters, the treatment of the iranian team, the suspension of established rules at the behest of the hosts. small succour watching them go out

Pochettino thoroughly debased himself in this tournament and before it with his sucking up to Trump and his gleeful acceptance of open corruption in his favour. He richly deserved this humiliation even if his players didn’t.
