discusses why losses or setbacks in men’s sports have almost always been met with more investment, while women’s sports haven’t historically been given the time and money to thrive. Listen to the full ep:

Gutsy performance from Wales U21 in Austria yesterday. Backs against the wall after two heavy defeatws (6-3 and 7-0) they were 2-0 winners. Goals from Biancheri and Popov. The former really seemed to know what he was doing! Solid display from fully capped Kai Andrews and Charlie Crew in midfield.

In the latest edition of

(out now) I’ve written about searching for ‘good soccer’ in the guise of Eduardo Galeano and finding it in a third-tier Welsh midfielder with massive calves.

I love this from Gerry Armstrong. Northern Ireland have lost their last ten against Germany. They haven't beaten them since 1983 (when Gerry Armstrong was in the team!)

Belgium U21s are wearing light blue shirts and brown shorts against Wales. Like some sort of Coventry City tribute.

England 3 Cymru 0. Bit of a waste of time. Hopefully a learning experience for the players and Bellamy (who is still an inexperienced manager).

A bit of Berks and Bucks County Cup action as Bracknell Town begin their defence of this illustrious competition against Spartan League opposition Risborough Rangers. They won 3-1 and Hayden Vaughan scored from the halfway line again.

Luke Jephcott now at Truro City. Once the future saviour of Welsh football. Christian Doidge took over the mantle, then Paul Mullin after a brief Ryan Hedges reign. Who next? 🏴

Absolutely appalling, horrible news from Chichester tonight. Thoughts with his loved ones. It's a disgrace that it's still considered "safe" to have concrete walls around pitches at any level of the game precisely because of the risk of something like this happening, and it *has* happened before.

iirc gerard houllier was baffled that michael owen didn't seem more excited about winning the ballon d'or. wasn't viewed as a big deal in england back then. let me say that for once, english football was right.

it was dumb for the players to decide the ballon d'or is really important and should be prioritised like a major trophy. but that's the world we live in and it's funny that it happened.

Scott McTominay being 18th in the Balon Dor means he'd be in the Earth squad to take on other planets. Imagine him bursting into the box against Jupiter. Could they handle that?

A 3-2 loss for Bracknell this evening. The Robins pushed in the 2nd half but couldn't make a breakthrough. A word for the ref who counted down from 8 every time the keeper had the ball and clamped down on time wasting. Meant we got to see a proper second half. Bracknell Town 2 Evesham United 3.

Very excited this evening to witness a referee make a goalkeeper retake a free-kick, as he has attempted to restart play with his hand.

There are some clubs who should have "official" change kit colours. West Bromwich Albion are top of that list.

Magnificent end to the Swansea City vs Forest game. I'm not a fan of penalties. Always good to see it settled in the 90 (+7). Also, the Wales. Golf. Modric. flag is very silly.

A write-up on Enfield vs Enfield Two in the FA Cup, played in Hertford, on a day of big Divorced Dad Energy.

The Weekend Match: Enfield 0-3 Enfield Town - letting go of the past is healthy, so long as you have a future
Hertford isn't the sort of place where you'd be expecting an FA Cup match between two teams from Enfield to be played, but the story of these two clubs isn't like the story of most.

West Ham United have banned football’s greatest scourge, half-and-half scarves. Though this heroic move is probably not for the security reasons they claim, nor even for matters of good taste, but because they’re biting into club shop income.

Driving through town the other day, we witnessed a boy and girl (both around 10) playing football with a dead pigeon. Truly the reason that football is the global game is that you can use anything to play it.

… one of the two security guards who checked me over asked to see the inside of my wallet. I showed him, he took out a passport photo of my daughter when she was a toddler, held it up against the light above his head and it was at this stage I knew they were well and truly taking the piss.

Three games left for Wales now. Home vs Belgium & North Macedonia and Liechtenstein away. Chasing 2nd looks most likely now. A drop to 3rd would mean an away playoff semi final against someone good. World Cup qualifying is hard.
