Literary translation from German. Seattle. (Elsewhere: Commonplaces)
I'm so pleased that my translations of Nadja KĂŒchenmeister's gorgeous poems appear in THE OPPOSITE OF SEDUCTION, alongside so many others to explore and discover. Do read! More translation!

The fact that Alice Weidel â co-leader of Germany's far-right extremists â calls Hitler a "communist" and compares Nazis to "leftish Palestinian" antisemites in ONE sentence epitomizes exactly the type of distorted discourse the liberal center in Germany has helped normalize over the past 15 months.

Democracy is not a prophecy; it is self-actuating. We must choose every day to continue this grand experiment. We must choose every day to accept the duty our forebears entrusted to us. We must choose every day to affirm the certainty of this legacy for future generations.
