I think specifically with reality TV there is a very over-represented-in-the-culture audience of sophisticated, highly educated people who consume it basically as a self-consciously trashy or even ironic guilty pleasure and I can't emphasize enough that this is NOT the typical reality tv audience.

The Fly, as in, the human-bodied, lab-coat-wearing, flyhead-and-claw-having mutation from the original film, should be recognized as a "monster type", just like a wolfman, a dracula, a gillman, etc, etc

"Sentimental Value" is a tumultuous, moving triumph about home, family, and art, and one of the year's absolute best.

Star Wars may have been the biggest sci-fi film out of the 1970s, but a surreal animated film from France might be the most fantastic.

Good week for movies overall. Between Joaquim Trier's "Sentimental Value," Lynne Ramsey's "Die, My Love," and Dan Trachtenberg's "Predator: Badlands," there's something for everyone.

Joachim Trier's "Sentimental Value" is reminicent of Bergman. Familial history is an outcropping of art and vice versa. Every performance is human and impeccable. And it is filled with hope. It's the movie of the year.
