Yuck! AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is on TCM. Not even Gene Kelly can save that dreadful script (which won a freakin' Oscar) and that ballet at the end is pretentious torture that goes on for 30 minutes longer than THE BRUTALIST. One of my least favorite musicals ever--and I love musicals.

A lot of the books they made us read in high school English sucked. I get that we had to read "the classics" (as defined by White people) but about 45% of what I read I couldn't stand. Every other book was about some White person fucking their cousin for stature or money. I couldn't relate to that.

There's that great story Ailee Willis told about how Maurice White would put in nonsense words and then replace them later when he had lyrics. When they were writing "September," he kept the "ba-dee-oh, say do you remember?" Willis asked what "ba-dee-oh" was and White said "who cares?" It stayed in.

When it comes to the Brontë sisters, I'm team Charlotte. My high school English teacher's ghost is gonna haunt me over my review of WUTHERING HEIGHTS.
