The bureaucracy of science has grown so much, the system is collapsing upon itself: Scientists have become administrators of grants rather than spending time on science. Paid administrators are demanding even more administrative work from scientists. Administrators are eating the science budget.

Not quite: "NIH would not be required to cap the proportion of new multiyear awards at 2024 levels. Instead, the bill limits the amount of money for multiyear funding to the 2025 level, which means the total number of new awards could again drop by 2000 compared with 2024.

Multiyear funding is normed on FY2025 levels, not FY2024 levels. This means the number of grants paid will go up, but may not go up very much compared to last year.

This is not true. MYF is capped at FY25 levels, where 39% of all awards were MYF. We need to be very precise about this because the impact is enormous.

It is limited in statute with teeth. But only to FY25 levels (39%) - the same level that contributed substantially to a 25% decrease in new science funding from NIH last year. So it's not toothless but it is ineffective.

Please stop saying the bill allows "no more multi-year funding" - or at least be clear the 'more' is in reference to disastrous FY25 levels. The bill allows 39% MYF, same as in FY25, which contributed substantially to a 24% drop in new research. The bill has some wins. MYF is not one of them.

ICE now confirming that there is a measles outbreak at the Texas concentration camp where young Liam was held.

In many of the first generation of modern concentration camp systems (near the turn of the twentieth century), the vast majority of deaths were caused by disease and malnutrition. Most of the victims were women and children.

Really scary situation here, and a reminder that a lot of concentration camp deaths were due to disease, not gas chambers.
