he last couple of weeks I’ve been at HHMI, AAAS, Occidental, and UCLA. I’ve been traveling all over the country for postdoc interviews, conference talks, panels, and meet and greets. Meeting with mentors and past and present. Meeting with my peers and colleagues.

Before I moved to Carolina 5-6 years ago, I gave all my college baseball stuff (I played D3 at Occidental) to my then-9yo neighbor. Now, he’s using all my old stuff! Ran into him and his friends playing wiffle ball and joined in 😊

“Because it’s always been done that way” should never stand in the way of imagining and building a new system that aligns better with our core values. Sometimes the hard and even the nearly impossible possible is worth it to create the future we envision.
