It's like fucking impossible to get anyone to acknowledge how societies are systemically abusive, oriented around the oppression of women as reproductive chattel, based on the sexual exploitation of the queer and the marginal, without everyone rushing to add a zillion caveats and exceptions.

What about discussions of Western patriarchy, then? Well, white women aren't that oppressed and are reactionary feminists and benefit from patriarchy, which is principally a tool of colonialism and corrupting non-Western cultures but not worth discussing as an issue or a concern itself.

This experience of trying to discuss patriarchy outside the West and immediately being talked over by women going "WELL IT'S BAD IN THE WEST TOO" is so frustrating and ubiquitous. We're starting to notice and demand answers as to why we can't discuss our experiences without false equivalencies.
