I know the current discourse is usually about the “K shaped economy” and I don’t know if this idea is related to that, but it feels more like one of those video game levels where water is rising and you need to keep climbing to survive.

i would make a very strong argument that Mdou Moctar is earth’s greatest living guitarist. Anyway he remade Purple Rain and it’s the first fiction film in Tamasheq. And it’s on the internet archive! C’mon, you’ve got nothing better to do today.

I may be reaching the mathematical limit of what can be done with Costco’s $.99/lb chicken drumsticks. I just hand minced two pounds of them for larb and saved trim for stock and schmaltz. The economy is not great, dude.

The main reason booksellers (and librarians, and and and) shelve SF and fantasy together is that the same people buy both. Experiments in separating them have usually resulted in confusion and lower sales. (To say nothing of endless tiresome arguments about which category any given work belongs in.)

this is a great review. I did the second round edits on this book over the course of about 72 hours in which i did nothing else but sleep and felt myself go completely insane, which is a peak reading experience and also gave me flashbacks to october 2020

Unbelievably angry for so many reasons but this is one of them. Cameron Reed's first book in 30 years published today. There is no "just a book" but this is the opposite of that, a triumphant and incredibly important comeback. And.

Mexico’s overwintering monarch population grew 64% this winter, with butterflies covering their largest area of forest since 2018. The recovery remains fragile, but suggests there’s been a positive impact from conservation efforts in the butterflies’ core habitat.

so last year i thought the cherry sapling my friend dug up and gave to me had died so when i trimmed the volunteer cherry (?) I stuck a bunch of shoots from it into the ground. They all lived. There is a double-digit number of cherry trees in this midsized suburban yard now. Oops.

"I don't write political romance, my books just deal with the wealthy Regency aristocracy" is like watching fish argue that their books have nothing to do with water. And makes about as much sense as you'd get from a fish.
