The proposed "BritCard" is not an ID, and it is not a card. It is a mobile app talking to a central database holding all your personal data, accessible by anyone over the internet. You need to login to it (I hope more secure than current government services) and it then shows you who you are.

There are benefits to having a real ID card, such as fraud prevention (faking a utility bill takes minutes). Most EU citizens have them, most have to carry them mandatory, and it is never a problem. This is not an ID card.

That’s what happens already in France, Belgium or Italy. If you are white you are never stopped by police and asked for your papers.

If you want to justify it phase it in with everyone getting a new passport or driving licence getting an ID card with the passport or licence.
