As every LGBTQ+person, straight woman, person with different physical needs, different skin colour, religion, accent or so called ‘special needs’ will know. Reduced funding for SEND in general along with increasing numbers due to better diagnosis and medical care for more complex needs means increased costs and less effective provision at all ages later on. The whole SEND system is far too short sighted and reactionary in it’s approach.

Apart from be a Principal of a multi site special school I used to go into main stream schools to advise on curriculum, adaptations and removing barriers to learning. The words ‘we can’t’ were quite often used by leadership. Demonstrating that they ‘can’ and ‘must’ was my job.

I do not find this piece in The Guardian useful. It adds nothing to a very serious and complex problem. A solution however is possible but it requres 3 things.
