Spot on. This is the link that's missing in the popular analysis. An SPS deal can only come AFTER the UK has in place a proper import control system. Otherwise the EU can't be sure that food coming in from the UK is safe; and that's a risk the EU won't take.

UK will only get an EU SPS deal (EU27 fully lifting their border controls for easier UK exports to EU: a sort of WF for whole UK) by demonstrating what's controlled onto (legal & illegal) & sold on its market meets the same standards as the EU's ..Catch 22 www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

People still not grasping this. You deter illicit trade by increasing chance of discovery & prosecution. Either by a shared database & being under mutually recognised legal authority, on a SM, or with an *effective* BF against DIFF legally regulated territories. UK now has neither with regards to EU
