Hi there #HorrorWritersChat I'm Samantha Bryant, a multigenre writer whose horror refuses to stay in one box. Some of my earliest horror loves were Vincent Price movies, Twilight Zone episodes, and Dark Shadows re-runs with my Mom, and horror comics I stole from my uncles.

That time when I got an ice cream at the top of the path at the cliffs of Moher. You can bet that that was some extra delicious ice cream. Made with Irish dairy and with an incredible Irish view.

Recently got my copy of The Shadows That We Carry, an anthology featuring stories from the #HorrorWritersChat community and published by William Beck It was created in memory of the HorrorChat's much-missed founder and proceeds go to Macmillan cancer charity, so a very special book all round

#HorrorWritersChat I LOVE this question. It's usually "too": a mile that is too wide or too toothy; a being that is too calm, too quiet, or too still. The kind of detail you could miss if you aren't paying attention, but that tugs at your subconscious, sending up danger flares.

I've been lucky enough to score more than one writing retreat in recent years, where I ignore all the other pulls on my attention and only focus on writing. That's healing and restores my faith in myself every time. On a more daily basis, I seek quiet moments in nature. #HorrorWritersChat

Time! I'm trying to do a lot, honestly, and 24 hours a day isn't enough especially when I need some of it for sleeping, eating, caregiving, and earning my day job pay. Looking forward to retirement (still too many years away) and the chance to drop "day job" from the list. #HorrorWritersChat

I write more natural than supernatural antagonists overall, though the combination can also be fun. In "She Cries in the Night" (included in Behind the Shadows III, 2025), Ahote is driven by grief, and it's hard to be sure if her haunting is supernatural or in her own mind. #HorrorWritersChat
