If you make 130% of the federal poverty level, you qualify for SNAP. A family of four, making $40,560, qualifies for SNAP benefits meaning thousands of Missouri teachers qualify. I’m tired of the bullshit. Most of the people who receive snap benefits work.

Total federal spending is up +7% in 2025 over 2024 year-to-date to Oct 20. The story that the fed govt is tightening its belt is contradicted by its own real-time expenditure data. Admin spectacularly hammering some things but raising spending elsewhere. Was -7% just after Inauguration Day.

In both the House and Senate, payment error rates will determine what share of SNAP benefit payments states are forced to pay. We're (hopefully) going to get FY2024 payment error rates in the next few days, but look! A map for FY2023. This policy looks like a recipe for ending SNAP in most states.

It’s very easy to fly yourself in circles speculating about whether any particular provision runs afoul of the Byrd Rule. But zooming out with your binoculars for a second, there are two important questions to ask beyond “what’s the substantive impact of the provision?”

Seems like if we want to increase a culture of work etc etc, this might be more promising than taking food benefits away from 60 year olds or parents of 9 year olds. Of course funding things like this wouldn’t open up budgetary space for tax cuts for rich people.
