As a resident of #Portland it is impossible to capture how unhinged this is. We are a low crime city and the ICE protest "siege" consists of one auxiliary ICE office that normally has at most a dozen weirdos debating what performance art they should use to block a single driveway

Ok @npr.org now do one for drivers on "How to not hit people with your car." Tired: blaming pedestrians and bikers for getting hit by people driving cars. Wired: safer road engineering, better bike and ped infrastructure, slower speeds, fewer giant vehicles, & less distracted driving, to name a few.

Amazing Swift show tonight in Portland! Every year migrating Vaux's swifts gather by the thousands and roost in chimneys like this SE Portland elementary school. And neighbors come out to watch them and cheer them on. It's a true delight.

HUGE: The Trump administration will no longer permit any solar or wind projects on federal lands unless they produce more energy-per-acre than coal, gas or nuclear power plants. Solar and wind literally produce less energy per acre, so simply this may just kill off any project on federal lands.

This rollercoaster of a @nature.com story is out! I talked to > 20 researchers whose grants were terminated; several were reinstated recently. Most are competing for smaller pots of $ to keep research--often involving marginalized community groups--alive. Advice: “If at all possible, push back.”
