I love the little dragon whiskers on the lip of this Phalaenopsis sanderiana orchid. This is a full species that has contributed to many of the common grocery/big box store hybrids. 🪴🌱

Met a real life Hexxus today: the dredge miner that destroyed the Yankee Fork of the Salmon River. It's weird that it has been turned into a museum & that historical preservation wants to save the "pristine dredge tailings". You know what would be cooler than worshipping this relic? 10,000 salmon. 🐟

I love the Owyhee Mountains. They remind me of the high deserts of northern Arizona. Lush little riparian area, sweeping grasslands, forbidding escarpments, and a turbulent sky. I barely finished my field work and escaped before the rain came down.

O'Henry is the best peach variety on earth. My plan is to eat at least 1 peach a day for the rest of September. I have proselyted these peaches to the point where I'm bringing north 13 boxes from Boise for friends and family. They're $30/box down here vs. $112/per box in Greenacres/Spokane (wtf?). 🌱

Incredible sunrise this morning on my way down to the Owyhees, then some beautiful redband rainbows. Look at the chrome on that first fish! I've never seen colors like that in a little resident trout. It looks like a steelhead with parr marks, but it wasn't even eight inches long, haha. 🐟

Tried to get close to some elk this evening and it worked. They had no idea I was there.

Taking this box of voucher specimens for the Idaho Bee Atlas project down to the Museum of Idaho in Nampa. I can't wait to find out what bee species I've documented! We didn't know what to do with the glut of grapes that we grew this year. After we ate a lot of them, Laura made tons of raisins and then ultimately bottled a bunch of grape juice (not pictured: seven more quarts of purple grape juice). 🌱

This gorgeous orchid is the easily grown Brassocattleya Yellow Bird. This is the third flowering this year. It is a backcross that is ultimately 75% Brassavola nodosa and 25% Cattleya milleri. I love the vibrant yellow with spots, like ripe bananas. 🪴🌱

2 years ago I went to the extension fruit growing workshop. They said that peaches in our area were marginal, and apricots and nectarines wouldn't work. The thing is, we were already successfully growing peaches, and had harvested a few apricots before our tree died in a freak snowstorm. Today: 🌱🍑
