Car culture has *ALWAYS* been communist. It could never have existed without communism. Now we can say it out loud with a straight face and all the carbrained deniers who claim they're the ones fighting for freedom and capitalism can pound sand.

When you're left-wing and want to exclude people, you call the people you dislike "transplants." When you're right-wing and want to exclude people, you call the people you dislike "illegals." They both want the same outcome The better solution: build more homes for everyone.

When you try to "preserve neighborhood character" in a neighborhood that burned down, you are admitting that "neighborhood character" is entirely about the socioeconimcs of the people that live there and has nothing to do with buildings.

ACA 22 -- the bastard child of the CA state legislature and failed negotiations that would require all special purpose taxes to require a 2/3rds threshold -- will be Prop 43 on the November ballot. When you're talking to friends and neighbors, remember to tell them to vote no on Prop 43!

Car engines make the air around them hotter Asphalt roads and parking lots make the air above them hotter The dearth of tree cover in your town is because of cars The inadequate green space in your neighborhood is because of cars Not tailpipe emissions. Just cars of any kind being cars

Am listening to music on my way home from work, where I stop hearing anything as I pass the usual dead zone near the Farmdale station. Check my phone and see YT Music says "Glitch" where the song title should be. Never seen that before! But turns out that Taylor Swift does have a song named Glitch!

Last year the California legislature passed Senate Bill 79, which legalized multifamily housing within a half mile of major public transit stops across California. This legislation was nearly a decade in the making. As of today, is officially active! Let the building begin!

Today, California ends decades-long bans on apartments near our most frequent train and bus stops, thanks to SB 79. Some cities will move fast. Others will take more time. Change won't happen everywhere at once. But it has begun, and it will not stop here.

An under appreciated benefit of automatic train operation is longer equipment life because of smoother acceleration and deceleration. This tweet brought to you by this Metro LRT operator coming into every station and speed restriction HOT.

And just a note, the matching calculation resets for the general election, so any contributions during the primary don't count against matching for contributions made for the general.

Hey! I'm excited to elect Nithya Raman as LA's next mayor, and I'd encourage anyone to contribute to her campaign before the month ends. If you're an LA resident, donations up to $257 will be matched by the city six-to-one, turning into $1,542.

The E Line takes 47 minutes to go from DTLA to Santa Monica - often slower than driving. Ten years ago, it took 46. This is not an accident - it's a policy failure. A group of volunteers, including me, decided to do something about it. 🧵

The reason the Trump Admin does these pogroms against Haitians and Somalis is because it allows the MAGA project to indulge in their 400 year old anti-Black fantasies but behind the guise of xenophobia against black immigrants rather than the racism we all know well. It's all very cheeky.

LLMs have plenty of problems. I'm sure they can make bad medical calls. But they also don't totally ignore the literature because of gut feelings, and *actually listen to what you say*. You don't have to wait six months every time you want to speak to one.

AI actually seems like a potentially a great tool for medicine bc (1) the number of diseases & conditions is such that for rare things many practitioners will have never even seen one case, let alone enough to have an n large enough for good judgement and (2) doctors as a profession are socialized…

I never took Simulation Theory all that seriously, but I'm increasingly coming around to the idea of Movie Theory. Life feels way too scripted, with way too many cliches, for this to be real life. I think we're in a movie

Every bikling has experienced the instant, joyous schadenfreude of a violent driver punish-passing you just before a light or stop sign, they get clogged behind a dozen cars, you ride past and wave at the psychopath, and you can almost feel their heart rupturing from the cortisol and anger.

Exactly right. Thousands of different cultures are mingling happily in lower Manhattan right now, and anyone who can't get on board with that is the social misfit. America always has been and always will be diverse. Love it or leave it, assholes.
