One-million-token context windows + subagents is a terrible combination.

Alpha is the confluence of a number of AI systems. The most important is obviously Opus. But she also integrates Qwen 3 Embedding and Qwen 3.5 running on an old 3080 Ti! You can get a *lot* of AI out of ~10B parameters.

A modest proposal: if you train an LLM you're entitled to an exclusive legal right to the weights for some limited amount of time, kinda like a patent. To get legal protection you have to upload the weights. After your patent expires, they go open-source.

This looks terrific and I look forward to many long internet arguments over how to pronounce the name.

Something's been bugging me and I think I just touched on why. If it was bad to train Claude et al. on "the commons," if it was "a rape of the commons" to train models on the written corpus, if that's not an acceptable use of the commons … what exactly is the commons for?

I've noticed my Bluesky posting has dropped off dramatically since Anthropic rolled out the 1m-token context window. I don't have time any more. I never compact. I just code all day long.
