And people straight up refuse to get it through their heads that there's a huge human trafficking problem that's driven by the Myanmar internet scamming industry, even though the forced labor situation has been widely documented. But they don't see SE Asian slavery victims as humans.

One of my former students in Vietnam works for an NGO that works closely with the government of Vietnam to prevent that kind of trafficking from happening in the first place, and it infuriates me that every time I log on here, I see people providing a steady supply of demand for more trafficking.

A lot of well-meaning progressives on this site have been funding slavery in Myanmar and Cambodia in the unshakable conviction that every dollar they give is instantly being translated into food magically making its way past a military blockade by the most competent armed force in the Middle East.
