Wild that there's not more mainstream coverage of this. I personally know two manga artists who pulled out of planned series with Shogakukan bc of this, and I've heard of more than a few others trying to figure out how to get out working with them until they actually clean house.

the lesson to be learned here is that when you let artists and creatives cook, instead of doing everything possible to increase shareholder returns, you get creative art that becomes immortal and inspires everyone!! you will always fall short when you don't trust the artists to do what they do best
