I see a lot advice and video essays where people say to not try or have dreams, to use what tools are in front of you, and the basic idea behind this isn’t bad: you might get further not forcing yourself into a single concept of success. But I think this advice doesn’t quite work for minorities.

Let’s talk about Tactician. This is how I did my own run through the game, and I added the additional limitation that I wouldn’t do random battles or grind. This was a fun run but not really what I was hoping for out of a Hard mode.

I’m nearing the end of a run through the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, playing on Tactician with minimal to no grinding. Overall I think this is a very good remake of the base game, though I would caution anyone against buying it for the balance changes or Tactician mode. Here are my thoughts:

This is what I keep coming back to as the weakness of B/X (which I like), and “unhelpfully concrete” explains it. Why is Dwarf a class? Why do the attributes only do these specific things? Because B/X tried to nail a toolkit down into a complete game. Good, but it certainly overdid it sometimes.

A studio is not only making an indie fighting game based on an indie comic universe, but apparently made the entire framework for the game open-source. (A part of my brain is now consumed with the question of which SFF novel/series would make an interesting fighting game...)

For whatever reason TTRPG writers are using bolding, fancy glyphs and graphic design to highlight words for their readers when they should really be using ad libs. Here are some examples of how this could improve a text.
