In TTRPGs I've met: labour organisers, worker-coop & affordable-housing advocates; lawyers working in immigration & human rights; card-carrying communists; etc The Venn diagram between them and the folks who go: "If you like a certain style of game you are a Nazi" are two separate circles.

Related to conversations about fantasy adventure and colonialism: one thing that is very interesting about D&D's medievalism is that its default geography -- frontiers, large areas of wilderness, etc. -- is not particularly what medieval W. Europe was like.

I cram citations and quotes and influences into my books because from the time I was a kid I've loved to pour over the influences section of a RPG - they are the gateway to a wider world!

I love how normalized this is within the ttrpg space. It makes drawing lineages and tracing the threads and conversations so easy. None of us make art alone

I've only been cited a few times, but it's a great act of recognition. @tim-waterman.co.uk told me a thing, that I tell my students: that to cite is not a chore but a gift, not something you have to do but want to do, to introduce your reader to a breadth beyond your limited idea, to open up ideas.

How blissful it is to come from a culture (or class, or gender, etc) used to pointing the bayonet, and never know what it is to have the bayonets pointed at them. But also utterly boring. My biggest annoyance with "don't humanise monsters" is that it always, no exceptions, makes blander stories.
