My recent mission is to get Palladium to return my emails about stocking their books at our shop. TBH, I kinda love that it's so hard to get a reply out of them. If they were all smiles and helpfulness it would shatter my fanboy fiction mental image I have of them.

On the way home from Comicon (booo, hiss) i accidentally nailed down how im gonna run 3-4 open table sessions of the Troika Megadungeon per week at Iglootree. Beware the new year! Unless someone does an AMAZING job of dissuading me in the meantime, this is ON

State of the TTRPG scene: running an exhibition stall next to the events stage (...) l. They have a well attended talk about getting in to TTRPGs. The question of games other than 5e comes up, and how theyre good to get into, using Pathfinder and playing Disco Elysium (the crpg) as only examples

The way we combat 5e at our FLGS is by never mentioning it ever

A "complete" ttrpg is one you can buy for your 9 year old nephew, who will struggle through that single book and eventually absorb it like an old tree does with a metal fence. And thats all they need.

Grading games has been something I've been working on for @iglootree.bsky.social as well. Some stuff you can just hand people and know they'll have a good time. So far my #1 easiest sell is Call of Cthulhu. It's a powerful intro to rpgs

My angle for this Comicon I've been forced to run a stall at this weekend is bringing only entry level stuff. By which i mean, core books of games which are self sufficient and complete. We have done almost as badly as every other time, but I've met loads of cool enthusiastic people new to games

The best kind of adventures are the ones where the party can miss huge chunks of it if they don't pay attention. Like, whole dungeon levels, entire contexts. Flipping love it

I think the large number of TTRPG-curious people walking in to Iglootree (.com) is down to the fact that RPGs are only about 1/4 of the mission there. It's mostly weirdo comics (no, weirder than what you're thinking), literature and occult, and the overlap to RPGs is HUGE

These "introduction" one-shots I'm running aren't just for total newbies. Anyone can come. Unironically, I think it's valuable for people to witness me run a game 'cos while I have a lot of experience I am in no way especially good at it! Be freed of the pressure to be amazing at games!
