My site is hosted on nixihost for $6/mo (I use wordpress, but there are literally dozens of blog & site builders you can use there) and my domain is ~$12/yr through porkbun. You can even host multiple services, like a website plus a forum If I sell 2-3 pdfs from it a month, it pays for itself

I been said that you can just make a website literally whenever, RSS still exists, forums still exist. There's a fully functional clone of 2007 era Myspace

I think a resurgence of rss is crucial to this as well You can "follow" people's updates, without ever being on the same social media site, it's universal. Just add their RSS to a reader. Big social media sites like twitter etc removed rss to keep you on their site. We have to bring that back
