Yesterday I decided that instead of other despairing shit I was going to take the next few years to learn how to do more stuff. Repair, clothing mending, more types of cooking and baking, first aid, woodwork, whatever. Practical and universal stuff to lean into being part of a community.

when your child has a speech disorder the school provides speech therapy. when your child has fine motor skills problems they provide occupational therapy. when your child has a social disability they say your child needs stricter discipline and punishment to force compliance with social norms

NOPE, we are not going to make UHC restricting ABA "therapy" a scandal. Autistic adults who survived it as children describe it as torture. It should be illegal and I don't give a fuck if they're only doing it to save money, it's an unambiguous good to reduce the hours we torture autistic kids.

When I talk to my providers about why they think ABA therapy should be covered, they say that many practices are no longer like the original ABA therapy, and they just have to call themselves that for insurance coverage. Something's wrong with ABA and we should cover alternative, better therapies.

this is arguably one of the most ethical things they have ever done but they did it for unethical reasons. insurance companies refuse to cover anything for autistic people *but* ABA and we have been campaigning for years for them to stop covering it
