The Roberts Court is overtly devoted, as a matter of judicial and political philosophy, to supporting the policy agenda of Donald Trump. These are DISCRETIONARY rulings - the Court is ruling, repeatedly and usually without explanation, that EQUITY requires that Trump’s agenda advance.

The crazy thing is that the justices had a couple of chances last term to grant review of the century-old precedent protecting federal agency heads but didn't take them. Now it is effectively disregarding that precedent on the shadow docket, without even full briefing on a stay.

NEW: Chief Justice Roberts has halted the reinstatement of FTC Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter—whom Trump fired in direct violation of federal law—while the full court considers the case. In other words, Slaughter just got booted from her job again. It's a worrisome sign for her ultimate prospects.

It's still astounding to read these words in a federal appellate decision about the president: "The Facts: In 1996, Carroll encountered Trump at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan where he sexually assaulted her by forcibly inserting his fingers into her vagina without her consent."
