my library's policy. Librarians like to say that book bans interfere with parents' direction of their children's reading. But also, by letting minors be patrons, librarians do not collude with parents' control over their children's reading. The freedom to read is radically democratic. 📚

also, our OPAC (the patron interface to the catalog) is structured so as to allow the patron only, and *not* library staff, access to their borrowing history. library software vendors do not necessarily offer such privacy protections by default. libraries need to insist upon them. 📚

I don’t exactly how to phrase this, but like… is autism that bad???? Like, why is it such a source of fear??? Of course there are challenges but you can be autistic and have a rich, fulfilling life! Many people do! I don’t understand the preoccupation.

If you want to understand open adoption, it makes sense to start with birth parents—yet studies of them are few. 2+ yrs ago, I began talking w/ birth mothers to try to understand what living in an open adoption is like for them, and what rights or options they might have if challenges were to arise.
