Marty Supreme OST is so damn good. Right up there with the scores for Sinners and a one Battle After Another. Maybe feels kinda I curious on my part that those three scores stood out the most to me from 2025, but they all rule.

hopefully one day it will be more commonplace. all the times i've heard of colleagues getting layered files, the artist half the time says that they were shocked to hear we do retouch at all and can't just hide the layer. the pubs def need to take that responsibility and save everyone time

How do we get Japanese publishers on-board with providing layered art files for manga? I feel certain that most artists themselves would be up for it, but there are so many steps along the line that stop it. We waste countless hours retouching art, hoping to get it right. It could be a single click.

I love it when a movie is touted as the best in its sub-genre since a movie that came out one year prior.

The lettering in the new Mushishi is so good that in places it's almost as if the sfx had been bilingual from the beginning. Spectacular work from @kernedout.bsky.social on a delightful translation by my colleague Andres Oliver in a package edited by @magpon.bsky.social. This belongs on your shelf.

There's a new English release of Mushishi, lettered by Phil Christie (@kernedout.bsky.social). I adore how Urushibara-sensei utilizes texture in her art, and how the sound effects inherit that texture. Phil does an amazing job replicating that with subtitled SFX. Notes in alt text!

Wondered if a function in the codebase would handle an empty string as invalid. Dug in and found a place where a case was added that specifically allows empty strings, along with the comment: // this was changed to be OK, hoping that it won't screw something up, 06/04/97

One of the best to ever do it

Having InDesign and Photoshop visible at the same time causes huge performance issues on Mac. If you need both open at the same time, either minimize one or switch desktops. Lowering InDesign display quality had negligible effect.

The classic example is Weapon X. Same color information in the file. Printed on different paper. Look at the difference! BWS colored it *for* newsprint. You want his version? You need similar paper! Reproducing comics well requires thinking about the files *and* the paper.

The two lamps in my living room had lightbulbs that were either very dim or very harsh blue light. Replaced them with bright, soft light and the room feels balanced and inviting.

Started reading The History and Technique of Lettering by Alexander Nesbitt. Absolutely fascinating, with the early portion I've read dealing with the development and evolution of alphabets, and how the tools used to write affected those changes. Regional differences, etc. Full of great diagrams!
