Here's all of the books I lettered in 2025. 83 in total (88 if you count omnibuses) & almost 200 simulpub chapters. It's been a busy year (20,000+ pages)—not much sleep, but thanks to everyone I work with, the localisation community and all the readers! Happy New Year! See you all in 2026!

Hi! Here's every manga I lettered in 2025. 40 volumes, maybe 43ish if you count omnibuses. This was a recovery year for me "technically" but I still ended up pretty overloaded. I have about the right workload, but time management is a tricky beast. Will try better next year!

It's that time of year... Tiny cover images to show off what I worked on this year! I edited 9 novels, 12 manga (though several of these were things I actually worked on previously but didn't publish until this year), and a whole heck of a lot of copy edits and proofreads of various books!

In 2025, I worked on 26 volumes as a logo/cover designer and lettered the equivalent of 14.5 volumes! My goal for 2026 is to continue on, and hopefully work with some more pubs. (Especially as a designer). So if anyone is hiring or knows of any opportunities feel free hit me up! #manga #lightnovel

Well... now that I've finished this year's work, I've done my annual review and... well... I think I've counted 62 volumes 🫠 which I think is my record, but I'm not going to repeat it... it's been so stressful! 😩 It will surely halve next year, I want to return to my regular life! ✨

Having InDesign and Photoshop visible at the same time causes huge performance issues on Mac. If you need both open at the same time, either minimize one or switch desktops. Lowering InDesign display quality had negligible effect.

The first pictures of the English release of Billy Bat are out! So excited show show off what @lettererbrendo.bsky.social and I did. These pages have fun bits where we styled the text closer to what an American comic from 1949 would look like. More info in the alt text!

Otaku Elf volume 10 is out now! The very first book I lettered was volume 1 of this, and I'm so happy to see it come this far. It's always a big challenge to letter,and I've got a thread of neat stuff from this volume below!

I recently had a chat with an editor who told me she’d been up for 36 hours working. I know loads of letterers and translators who stay up all night to hit deadlines. I love my job and adore the people I work with, but this is the reality of many creative careers.

It's probably not well-known, but in some (not so rare) cases a SINGLE PAGE of manga can take 3-4 hours to letter. Get 2-3 pages like this and your day is fucked. Meanwhile, you might only have 7 days to finish the volume. The amount of work going into some books is absolutely mind-boggling.

i know chapter 15 of Bug Ego came out a bit ago but i'm finally around to letting everyone know that YES i did have to completely redraw this computer screen and do all of the text, adjust the original emojis, and do all the effects myself! it took hours!!! happy with how it turned out but damn!

Oh hey! The first volume of Assassin's Creed Forgotten Temple came out. This is a scrolling webtoon localized from the original Korean and adapted for print. A huge step for me personally, as it's the first time I lettered a full color comic.

On the subject of reusable assets, I kinda hate that there's a brush for everything in CSP. I get that it's time-saving, but it also flattens everyone's art into the same style.

Sometimes, letterering for manga means working in tandem with the Japanese SFX instead of rewriting them! In CLAMP Premium Collection Tokyo Babylon, Vol. 7, letterer @kernedout.bsky.social skillfully blends the English "ZWOOSH" text with it's Japanese counterpart for a seamless reading experience!

A strange thing about lettering manga is, the speech balloon/line count on average is almost always 1400. Lots of dialogue = less SFX. Lots of SFX = less dialogue. But for some odd reason it always comes to around 1400 lines of text. (Or maybe it's just the stuff I work on? 🤷‍♂️)

Can't count the amount of lettering choices I made during the simul grind that I then went back and said "man what the fuck was I thinking" or just didn't have time to really consider That the bar is as high as it is, with the quality of work people are putting out, is astounding.

Some insight on why Kagurabachi simuls look different. ∙Simuls are lettered within 24 hours ∙Some letterers do 2-3 simuls (same day) ∙Chapters can arrive at random times ∙Corrections are done in-house, & text needs to be editable ∙It needs to be a font we have a license for

This was supposed to be lettered in InDesign using fonts. It wouldn't have worked. Hand-lettering isn't always practical and isn't always allowed, so kudos to the editors who let their letterers to break the rules.

It’s always great when a new manga publisher pops up, but you always gotta wonder sometimes where they get their ideas on manga lettering from and if they’re aware they committed a cardinal sin of lettering. Not to say established publishers don’t also have their quirks. Some do.
