When replaying FFT be sure to bring the story characters along, even after in the older version their dialogue ran out... because for this version they wrote a *ton* of new content. Agrias giving Gaffgarrion a lecture on equality, for example.

Seen posts saying FFT:IC added conversations with party members in the menu. But it didn't! These were in earlier versions of the game. You open the unit's status in the menu, hit select, and then move the cursor to the character's name and hit confirm to see them! IC just made them easier to view.

Shouting the part about "tough" being a misinterpretation of the JP from the rooftops. I know people love that line, but it is outright changing his intent from the JP to the EN in the OG PSX version. I wrote about this a long time ago on RPGFan, as well!

Given Alexander Smith's anecdote about translating Final Fantasy 8 without ANY kind of script provided (having to play and record the game on VHS and transcribe it before TL could happen), I refuse to believe FF Tactics PS1's text structure was remotely coherent. I'd love to see those old workfiles.

This does a wonderful job of showcasing how the Japanese text uses vivid wording and elevated diction just as much as the WotL translation. (FF4 also does this to an extent, which is another reason why I consider the DS translation to be the best both in terms of accuracy and writing quality.)

Part 21 of my Suikoden Localization Let's Play covers some puzzle hint issues, transliteration woes, Japanese counter words, how Japanese can put full sentences (or more!) in front of a noun and what to do with that in translation, as well as how to convey なつかしい in English.

Btw, Silksong's script stands at about 90.000 words total. A pro TL would need about 2 months to translate that much, and that's with an additional editor pass.

We're down to just one missing issue of Sendai's P.S.X. magazine, and it's this one. Anyone out there possibly have this stashed away?
