It's very easy to see the towering indifference and apathy, but I've talked to and met the folks who are really excited and supportive of projects like the Griot Anthology and Five Fires. I would rather focus on those ppl and to see what I can continue to offer.

I'll accept that people are putting some incredible humor in alt text of images on here. Except that's not what alt text is for, it is "descriptive text that conveys the meaning of an image in digital content." I get it, it's a nice cheat because alt text allows 2000 characters here vs. 300.

Going into 2026, consider making your posts not only more accessible, but also more searchable on this platform. Use alt text. It's a lot easier than you think. It's also not for jokes or goofing around. It's to describe the meaning of the images in your post. No alt text? No repost from me. 💖

I had to leave my home and my kids behind to seek refuge 1200 miles away, I was sexually assaulted, I lost a friendship of twenty five years, I got my heart broken, I lost most of my belongings in the move, I was mugged, I watched ppl embrace AI that I thought knew better.

When we speak about networks, friendships and ways to connect in professional spaces we need to remember that not all of us start from the same sets of advantages. Not all of us value the same sets of connections. I ride for those who ride for me, and I try and avoid being palatable and devoured.

Black creatives in general interface with structural oppression and with business in ways that others simply do not have to do. So when the rug is pulled from underneath you you can fall much harder. There's a lot of brilliant people who aren't active in the space anymore. Their contributions lost.

There are Black creators missing from spaces, and their voices missing from conversations about games because they literally couldn't be in the space anymore. Some of us had back channels to protect our mental health. Imagine that people network with you because your structural oppression is popular

Networking is a social skill that has different rules and meanings in cultural contexts. During BLM many Black folks were basically mined for their experience, and the connections made were not always genuine even if they came from initially good ideas. Black creators were not seen as individuals.

Jonaya shares crucial insights on networking as a Black person. Read the thread! I resonate with avoiding being palatable & devoured. I'm *not* a palatable marginalized person in the space and, unsurprisingly, that costs me opportunities. But I refuse to let career advancement override my values.

One thing I don't understand is how people imagine having relationships of any kind where you need to explain and establish baselines for getting your needs met when all of your illicit forms of enjoyment are based on clearly negotiated scenes and understandings. /1
