I admire Council Member Chavez’s strong, steady leadership in Southeast Minneapolis and am so grateful for how he showed up during Operation Metro Surge. Our city has greatly benefited from his leadership. I am thankful for his support and look forward to working with him to strengthen our schools!

Mainly because the same CMs that feel we should be “focused on other issues,” have not brought policy forward this year with their name on it to address their purported “more important priorities.” It’s just posturing without doing any of the work. Maybe better to write some policy, then complain.

The comments from some CMs on this subject yesterday were completely out of touch and frankly ignorant. As a queer person, to see how so many campaigned as “LGBTQ+ champions” and then completely dismiss this issue as “unimportant” is just disappointing.

From what I saw today firsthand it was the sheriffs today constantly escalating at people protesting peacefully. The sheriffs were masked up like ICE while working hard to agitate and provoke the residents they were sworn to protect, all so they could provide security for ICE who murders people.

We were literally watching our community provide a ceremony at the Whipple building. Hennepin County Sheriff’s then began to escalate tensions. This was disrespectful to our community, our culture, and our ancestors. This created fear and was an attack on our right to peacefully assemble.
