The Trump administration claims record deportations but something doesn't add up. Austin Kocher analyzes ICE and DHS data to test whether the numbers are plausible—and finds reasons to be deeply skeptical.

ICE ERO only deported 21% more people in FY 2025 (329,018) compared to FY 2024 (271,480) under the Biden administration. This is well within the level of annual variation in deportations during previous administrations, well below Obama’s highest deportation numbers, and thus hardly unprecedented.
