Absolutely sadistic. A Dem Congress should pass a law banning anyone who is currently serving with ICE or CBP from future Fed employment. The Feds should condition all future Fed grants to police depts on blanket refusals to hire ppl who were in ICE/CBP right now.

If we care about the "greater good," we have to stop caring if a few people get help they don't need as long as thousands get help they truly need. If most people who get help spend it wisely, there's no point in policing to find the relatively few who don't. Policing & means testing are expensive.

I wish they said explicitly that there's $5 billion in emergency reserves they're refusing to use instead they're happy to let people - mostly children, the disabled, and elderly, starve.

America deserves to be ruled by laws. That will require standing up to the criminal conspiracy that is the modern Republican Party. Including its representatives on the Supreme Court. But it also means standing up to a Democratic Party that fears enforcing laws might cost them votes & donations.

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

More seriously, this is one reason primaries are important. I expect to have my past examined. I expect people to ask if my politics are consistent and logical. I don’t think that is unreasonable: I think it is how we can run unconventional candidates without another Fetterman situation.

When I was on SNAP I was working every shift I could get and applying for better jobs every day. It got a lot easier to job hunt when I wasn’t hungry anymore. Congress is full of millionaires who have never relied on the programs they are gutting. I intend to change that.

If you have it please donate cash to the food banks. $10 in their hands will feed more people than the $10 worth of canned goods you can buy for retail prices. Also check on your elders. Many of them will not admit they rely on these programs so grocery gift cards or a surprise bag of staples

It's hard to overstate how fully engaged Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are in this ICE madness. There are neighborhood watch alerts, spontaneous crowds gathering outside schools at pick up & drop off plus madly blowing whistles and honking car horns, this city is fighting back and hard.

You can donate to the Chicago Street Vendor Relief Fund to help buy out a local street vendor’s cart for the day. They’ve partnered with a bike patrol / cycling solidarity group, which rides around buying out the inventory then distributing the food at homeless & unhoused encampments & shelters.
