Those with sharp eyes might detect a subtle difference in NYT play last month of an event in one city, w 100,000+ attendees, versus play this morning of some 2500+ events w many millions of attendees, in all 50 states. See if you can spot it! /s Then you can find today's story on p A23

Protect yourself as best as you can. Even if you are a U.S. citizen, please ensure that you have proof of citizenship just in case, ESPECIALLY if you're a POC. If you adopted a child, it is your duty to get them their proper documentation! (If you find the enclosed info valuable, please share.)

Picture here is from 1992. LA riots. Ive seen this called bad news judgment. In any real journalism outfit this is more like a firing offense. I basically say such things. Beyond belief.

the reason to defend affirmative action wasnāt because racial preferences were perfect but to defend the principle that institutions ought to account for disparities, disadvantage and discrimination. unfortunately we have a large clique of dipshit pundits who could get fooled by a wallet inspector.

The rescission bill is the next step in the creeping death of the Senate filibuster -- a process that has accelerated in this administration. But it also is likely to provoke a bit of short- to medium-term chaos. A thread.

The Appropriations Process Was Already Broken. The Rescission Bill May Have Just Shattered It.
āIt will undermine our trust in the system, because Republicans can vote for one thing one day and then collude with President Trump to take it out the next,ā Sen. Chris Van Hollen said.

As someone who has been writing about comparative democratic decline for a decade, I think we've just seen the two most dangerous signs in the US so far. They are: 1) Successful attacks on media, specifically cowing CBS and defunding NPR 2) The Supreme Court's deference to Trump on executive power

Iām old enough to remember when John Barrasso consistently opposed defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting because CPBās most important role is financially sustaining radio and TV broadcast infrastructure in places like WYOMING where private enterprise will not connect people to the world.
